Stock Scanners and Risk Management

What a real-time scanner is for, and why risk rules have to sit next to any alert.

Stock scanners lesson cover

A scanner finds candidates. It does not take the trade.

A real-time stock scanner filters the market for volume, gaps, highs of day, or indicator conditions. It is a way to see what is in play. It is not a buy or sell signal.

Momentum Scanner and Market Replay are separate subscriptions from Premium education. PreMarket and News are included with Premium.

Risk sits next to every alert

Position size, a predefined stop, and a reason to exit matter more than finding one more ticker. The psychology of not trading money you cannot afford to lose is covered in Premium.

If an alert does not match your plan, the correct action is to skip it.

      Build a short loop

A workable loop is: scan for candidates, filter against your watchlist and risk rules, take only the setups that match, then review what you skipped and why. Without the review step, scanners become entertainment.

Start with one or two filters you understand. Add complexity only after those filters are consistent.
